Sarah Gallant McCurdy - Creator & Author

Sarah Gallant McCurdy, creator and author of 'Louie the Lobster in What is a Friend.'Hi! My name is Sarah. I am the creator / author of Louie and his first adventure, 'Louie the Lobster in What is a Friend?'.

I was born and raised in the quaint, picturesque fishing village of North Rustico on beautiful Prince Edward Island. In 2001 I married a non-islander (one of the few brave souls to do so) and since then have pursued and received two degrees, a B.A. (Psychology) from the University of Prince Edward Island and more recently my B.Ed. (specialization in Elementary studies) from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB. I live in North Vancouver, BC with my husband and two wonderful daughters, Isabelle and Olivia.

As the daughter of a lobster fisherman, the idea of 'Louie' has been a part of me all along. However, it was only as part of my experience as an educator and parent that this 'idea' actually took hold and eventually became the character and first adventure we have here today.

So take a look around and feel free to drop me a line anytime, to ask a question or just to say 'hello'.

Kris Warden - Illustrator

Sarah Gallant McCurdy, creator and author of 'Louie the Lobster in What is a Friend.'Hi! My name is Kris. I am the illustrator of Louie and his first adventure, 'Louie the Lobster in What is a Friend?'.

I am an honors graduate in Graphic Design from George Brown College in Toronto. When Sarah and Arron approached me for this project I saw it as a wonderful opportunity (not too mention a challenge) to help them carve out Louie and the other characters. My goal was to be able to take their idea behind 'Louie' and give the characters and their habitat a unique childlike appeal.

"The key to the wonderful artwork in 'What is a Friend' book is Kris' decision to hand-draw the story's imagery using watercolor crayons." - Sarah Gallant McCurdy

The combination of watercolor crayon and hand-drawing provides the artwork with a vibrant look and feel while giving the imagery a playful, childlike air.

I have recently moved to the East Coast of Canada, to Fredericton, New Brunswick to be closer to my sister and my wonderful nieces and nephews. I am looking forward to picking up my watercolors for Louie's next adventure.
