Amani Baby Cottage

Happiness and Heartbreak on the Nile

The Amani Baby Cottage was founded by Corky Randolph and his daughter, Danyne Randolph Bharj. The orphanage lies a stone's throw away from the source of the Nile along the shores of Lake Victoria. Amani_Building_Small.jpgIt was established to provide a place of loving support and welfare of newborns, babies and toddlers whose parents have either died, abandoned them or are unable to provide for them at this time.

'Young Voices of the Nile' is a collection of short stories written by the sons and daughters of the 'Mamas' (the Ugandan staff of Amani Baby Cottage). 'Young Voices' was developed by Jacinthe McCurdy, an expat who volunteers 5 days a week to help with the 'Baby A' group (those from newborn to 12 months). During her time at Amani she came to understand the importance the Mamas put on their children's education and the very real fact that an education is the only key to a better life - one they hope will be removed from poverty.

The book (Young Voices of the Nile) was created for one reason: to give the Mamas' children an amani_babies_small.jpgopportunity to write about their country and find within themselves a love of writing and reading that is fundamental to educational success.

Profit from the sale of each copy of 'Young Voices of the Nile' is directed straight back to Amani in an effort to help them continue their lifesaving and life changing work.
